Purpose of the position:

  • Design engineering, including concept development, drafting, 3D design and detailing
  • Project management of multiple projects at different stages
  • Machine assembly, testing, commissioning and installation
  • Post project customer support



  • Diploma or tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering (or equivalent).


  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience in machine design or relevant engineering role.  Experience in automation or manufacturing industry preferred but not essential.
  • Demonstrated skills in mechanical engineering design, precision engineering, special purpose machine and mechanism design and assembly
  • Proven experience in concept development, 3D design and detailing
  • Familiarity with safety requirements of machine design
  • High-level technical skills with demonstrated experience in commonly used 3D CAD software
  • Sound knowledge of PLC’s, sensors, pneumatics, servo motors, conveyors and robotic based automation systems
  • Knowledge, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge in robotic based automation systems
  • Be familiar with manufacturing practice and experience in automation and robotic design concepts


Design engineering

  • Studying functional statements, organisational charts and project information to determine functions and responsibilities of workers and work units and to identify areas of duplication
  • Establishing work measurement programs and analysing work samples to develop standards for labour utilisation
  • Analysing workforce utilisation, facility layout, operational data and production schedules and costs to determine optimum worker and equipment efficiencies
  • Designing mechanical equipment, machines, components, products for manufacture, and plant and systems for construction
  • Developing specifications for the manufacture, and determining materials, equipment, piping, material flows, capacities and layout of plant and systems
  • Organising and managing project labour and the delivery of materials, plant and equipment
  • Establishing standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance according to engineering principles and safety regulations
  • Inspecting plant to ensure optimum performance is maintained
  • Directing the maintenance of plant buildings and equipment, and coordinating the requirements for new designs, surveys and maintenance schedules


Project management

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages
  • Ability to work to deadlines and budgets
  • Experience in specification and ordering of purchase components
  • Experience in the development of machine manuals and documentation
  • Demonstrated skills in document and revision control
  • Ability to provide exceptional post-project customer support


Machine assembly, testing, commissioning and installation

  • Plans, designs, organises and oversees the assembly, erection, operation and maintenance of mechanical and process plant and installations. Registration or licensing may be required.
  • Ability to assist with prototyping, testing and design validation
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Ability to provide exceptional post-project customer support

  • Electrical Schematics
  • PLC programming experience
  • Solid Edge or Solid Works design experience
  • AutoCAD design experience

  • A current Australian Driver’s License
